Philippine flight fare trends — a real-data study of 110 corridors (May-July 2026)

In one paragraph: We tracked the cheapest fare on 110 Philippine-origin corridors across six weekly snapshots between 4 May and 19 July 2026 (all in PHP, from Travelpayouts). Of the 69 corridors with three or more price points, 48 fell and 21 rose — a median net change of about -15%. Fares were highest in early May and lowest by mid-July: 22 of 69 corridors hit their cheapest snapshot in the last week we measured. East Asia corridors softened the most (median -21.5%); Gulf/OFW corridors barely moved (median -2.7%). Below are the cheapest and dearest corridors, the biggest movers, the cluster patterns, and an honest methodology — including what six snapshots can’t yet tell us.

The headline: fares broadly softened {#softened}
Across the 69 corridors that had at least three weekly snapshots, most got cheaper over the window. 48 fell, 21 rose, none stayed flat. Among the 41 most reliable corridors — the ones we sampled a full six times — 34 fell and only 7 rose. The single-number summary is a median net change of -15.0% from each corridor’s first snapshot to its last.
The clearest way to see the move is a fare index: for each corridor we divide every weekly price by that corridor’s own average, so a value of 1.00 means “average for this route” and the distance between corridors of wildly different length cancels out. Averaged across all trend corridors, the index fell steadily:

Early-May fares sat about 15% above each route’s own average; by mid-July they were about 6% below — an 18.7% easing across the window. In plain terms: if you were pricing the same routes in early May and again in mid-July 2026, mid-July was materially cheaper.
Cheapest and most expensive corridors right now {#ranking}
The raw price ranking is dominated by distance — a two-hour hop is always cheaper than a trans-Pacific haul — so read this as what a seat costs, not where the bargain is. Prices are the most recent snapshot for each corridor (date shown); a few long-haul routes were last sampled in early May.

The biggest fare movers {#movers}
We rank movers by net change from first snapshot to last, and we only feature corridors with five or six snapshots — the ones least likely to be distorted by a single odd reading. (Corridors with three or four points show the same overall direction but rest on thinner evidence, so we keep them out of the headline table.)

*Manila–Kota Kinabalu started from an unusually low early-May promo fare (₱5,227) and normalised to the ₱9,000-14,000 band, so the +163.9% is an endpoint effect off a low base rather than a steady climb.
Two things stand out. First, Gulf/OFW corridors split: Riyadh collapsed by nearly two-thirds while Dubai climbed by almost half — the “Gulf” isn’t one market. Manila–Dubai’s rise is consistent with the seasonal shape we describe in our dedicated Manila–Dubai fare-trends guide, where summer and Eid/Hajj windows firm up the route. Second, the big drops cluster in East Asia and ASEAN — Kaohsiung, Taipei, Jakarta, Osaka, Macau — the short-to-medium leisure and labour corridors that respond fastest to added seat capacity.
Patterns by traveller cluster {#clusters}
FlyPilipinas serves four broad traveller clusters. We group corridors by destination region as a proxy for cluster — a Manila–Tokyo seat carries both an OFW and a K-wave tourist, so treat these labels as corridor type, not passenger type. Median net change and median latest fare per cluster:

The pattern is coherent: the discretionary, price-sensitive East Asia and ASEAN corridors softened the most (the ones balikbayan and leisure travellers can shift by a few weeks), while OFW Gulf corridors — where demand is deployment-driven and less flexible — barely moved. For a returning OFW, that’s the honest takeaway: your Gulf fare is stickier than a tourist’s Osaka fare, so booking-window discipline matters more, not less.
The cheapest week to book — and what we can’t say yet {#when}
Within this window the signal is consistent: the latest snapshots were the cheapest. Counting, for each corridor, which snapshot was its own low point:

Late June and mid-July (W27 + W29) together held the cheapest reading for 51% of corridors, and mid-July alone for nearly a third. Combined with the falling fare index, the within-window conclusion is clear: fares eased into mid-July 2026.
Here is the honest limit. Six snapshots across an 11-week window (early May to mid-July) is not enough to call annual seasonality. We can say fares softened over these weeks; we cannot yet say “book in July every year.” For the recurring, year-round booking-window guidance — Asia 6-10 weeks out, Gulf 8-14, US/Canada 12-20, Europe 14-22 — see our best-time-to-book guide, which is built on longer-horizon seasonality rather than this one quarter. As our weekly cron accumulates more weeks, this study will grow into a real seasonal picture; today it is a rigorous snapshot of one softening quarter.
Methodology {#methodology}
- Source. Every price is from Travelpayouts (aggregated airline and OTA fares), captured into FlyPilipinas’s own fare-history file (
tp-fares-history.json) by our weekly cron. We add nothing and estimate nothing. - What a data point is. The cheapest return fare our system found for a corridor at snapshot time — not an average paid fare, not a guaranteed price. Airline yield engines move the lowest available fare daily, so any single reading can swing.
- Coverage. 110 corridors from 8 Philippine origins (Manila, Cebu, Clark, Davao, Iloilo, Kalibo, General Santos, Panglao). Six weekly snapshots: ISO weeks 2026-W19, W23, W24, W25, W27, W29 — i.e. 4 May to 19 July 2026. The weeks are not contiguous (the cron missed some), so we report change from a corridor’s first to last observed snapshot, not a strict week-over-week step.
- Currency. All fares are Philippine pesos (PHP). We never mix currencies; every comparison is peso-to-peso.
- The N rule. No trend or percentage claim uses a corridor with fewer than three snapshots. 69 of 110 corridors clear that bar. The featured movers table is stricter still — five or six snapshots only.
- The fare index. To compare routes of different length we normalise each weekly price to that corridor’s own mean, then average the index across corridors per week. 1.00 = “average for this route.”
- Clusters. Corridor→cluster mapping is by destination region, an editorial proxy for FlyPilipinas’s audience clusters, not a per-passenger label.
- Reproducibility. Every table is generated by
.team/scratch/fare_study.pyfrom the raw JSON. Re-running it after any weekly refresh regenerates the numbers. Our methodology page documents the pipeline.

What data is this Philippine fare study based on? FlyPilipinas’s own fare history — the cheapest fare our system found for each route at six weekly Travelpayouts snapshots between 4 May and 19 July 2026 (ISO weeks W19, W23, W24, W25, W27, W29). What was the cheapest week to book in this window? The latest snapshots. Mid-July (W29) was the low point for 22 of 69 corridors, and W27+W29 together held the cheapest snapshot for 51% of corridors. Early May (W19) was dearest. We can’t yet name the cheapest month of the year — six snapshots isn’t enough.
Which Philippine routes moved the most? Among five-or-six-snapshot corridors: biggest drops were Manila–Riyadh (-63.9%), Manila–Kaohsiung (-63.8%) and Manila–Jakarta (-58.1%); biggest rises were Manila–Dubai (+45.8%), Cebu–Denpasar/Bali (+31.6%) and Manila–Seattle (+26.0%). First and last prices and snapshot counts are shown so each change is auditable.
Are these the fares I will actually pay? No. These are the cheapest fares observed at snapshot time, not average paid fares or a quote. We reduce noise by requiring three or more points per corridor, reporting endpoints rather than single readings, and using medians across dozens of corridors. Treat the numbers as direction and magnitude.
